Getting started
Is RainSplit free?
Yes. Creating groups, adding expenses, tracking balances, and settling up are all free.
Do my friends need to create an account to be in a group?
No. You can add anyone to a group by name. They only need an account of their own if they want to log in and see the balances from their side too.
What kinds of expenses can I track?
Anything shared: trips, rent, dinners, group rides, subscriptions, household bills. If two or more people are splitting the cost, RainSplit can track it.
Splitting & expenses
How does splitting actually work?
Add an expense, pick who paid, then choose how to split it: equally, by exact amounts, by percentage, or by shares. RainSplit does the arithmetic and updates everyone's balance instantly.
Can I set up something like rent that repeats every month?
Yes. Recurring expenses let you set up a cost once (rent, a shared subscription, whatever), and RainSplit generates it on schedule so you're not re-entering the same expense every month.
Can I organize expenses by category?
Yes. Tag expenses as food, accommodation, transport, utilities, entertainment, flights, or other, so your group's history stays readable instead of a wall of numbers.
Settling up
Does RainSplit move money for me?
No. RainSplit tracks who owes who. It doesn't process payments or connect to a bank account. When you actually pay someone (UPI, cash, bank transfer, whatever you use), you record it as a settlement and the balance updates.
What if five people owe each other different amounts? Do we all have to pay each other individually?
No. RainSplit simplifies balances down to the fewest number of payments needed to settle the whole group, instead of everyone paying everyone.
Privacy & data
Can people outside my group see my expenses?
No. Expenses and balances are only visible to the members of that specific group.
Can I get my data out of RainSplit?
Yes. Export any group's expense history as a CSV or PDF whenever you want a copy outside the app.
How is my data protected?
